Bet on Sports Founder will serve 51 months in jail

Gary Kaplan was one of the founders of the internet gambling company Bet on Sports and was charged by the US attorney for violation of the RICO act, a law that forbids remote gambling companies to accept bets from US citizens. Gary Kaplan was arrested in the Dominican Republic by the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) late in 2007 and was placed under house arrest during the investigation as well as during the trial. Gary Kaplan decided to plea guilty on the charges against him and now the sentence has been issued

Gary Kaplan founder of the remote internet gambling company Bet On Sports has after a long time finally received his sentence over the trial case based on the Rico Act. Gary Kaplan has been sentenced to serve 51 months in jail and will have to pay $43.65 million in fines and around another $7 million for all the legal proceedings. It is however not decided if Gary Kaplan will be able to withdraw any time from his sentence due to the close to 2 years Gary Kaplan has spent in House arrest  since his arrest.

Bet On Sports opened up for business in 1995 and accepted bets on sports via wire, telephone and online. By 2006 the company had more than 1 million users wagering more than 1.8 billon dollars every year. Gary Kaplan that was one of the original founders was charged with over 20 felonies regarding racketeering. Gary Kaplan was sentenced to the maximum amount of time to spend in jail and that is because he violated the law so many times and refused to stop his business commented the Judge.
