The first results from WSOPE 2009 are in

The World Series of Poker has been around since 1970 when Benny Binion invited 6 of the best poker players around to battle it out to see who where the bet poker player in the world. 12 years later the tournament has grown to 52 participants in the tournament and since then the tournament has just grown larger and larger. In 2006 that is the beat year so far 8,773 poker players Participated in the event and that’s when the WSOP decided to bring the event across the Atlantic. In 2007 the First ever WSOPE was held in London. The 2009 version of the World Series of Poker Europe started the 17 of September and features 4 events and two special events.
All of the 4 tournaments are played over a period of at least 3 days and the Main event is set over a period of 6 days. The special events that is being hosted is the Caesars Cup which is a Europe against USA event to see who has the best poker players. The final event was the first event to be played in this year’s World Series of Poker Europe, The Betfair Million Dollar Free roll. Betfair has been offering satellites during the whole summer to gather 18 poker players that will be placed on 2 tables playing a final game of poker for a first Prize of $1.000.000 that went to a 23 year old Greek player Anestis Metsas.
The first event for the WSOPE was the No-Limit Hold’em £1000 event that attracted 608 players that created a total prize pool of £608.000. The event was played over 3 days and in the end John-Paul Kelly from Aylesbury in England was the only man standing after he busted out Fabien Dunlop in a heads up match. The first place finish gave John-Paul Kelly a prize sum of £136.803 and he is the first British player to walk away from the WSOPE with a bracelet.
