VISA to follow MasterCard gambling footsteps
Mar 1, 2010
Currently online gambling deposits are being blocked by VISA and MasterCard for online gamblers residing in the US. The trend has widened for MasterCard as the company decided to make it increasingly difficult for online gamblers around the globe to make their deposits at their favourite online casino. It seems that their competitor VISA is going down the same path. VISA which consists of a credit card and a debit card decided to start implementing the blocking of online gambling transactions by closely monitoring the coding of the transactions.
Since some countries are fence sitting when it comes to online gambling, it has become clear that MasterCard and VISA has made up their minds with regards to online transactions. Some payment providers already decline to accept deposits from online players as they prepare for the new regulations of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. This new regulation will take effect on 01 June 2010. The direction of these payment processors is a clear indication that they would rather be on the safe side than to accept unlawful deposits.
It’s not all doom and gloom though. Online gamblers are spoilt when it comes to choice of an online payment processor. VISA will continue to accept transactions to online casinos, online poker rooms, Sportsbooks and online bingo halls. It is up to the player to investigate if the specified online casino or Sportsbook in this matter accepts VISA or not. With a wide variety of payment processors statistics show that payment methods like Neteller, Moneybookers and Click and Buy are hugely popular in the online gambling industry. So for now the online player still has a variety of options to choose when it comes to online payment methods.
