Will online poker be legalised in Holland
Aug 27, 2010
A report came clear that online poker might be legalised in the Holland. The report was cleared and tabled on Friday last week, and the news broke through the ranks over the last couple of days. It is a great move forward for a country which boasts of so many people having online access as well as online players based in Holland. What basically happened was that a report was commissioned by the Ministry of Justice and in this report they found in favour of legalising online poker in Holland. This new innovation is fantastic news to a road forward in the online gambling industry.
The Jansen Commission comprised of Ministers and Legal experts commissioned the report and came up with reasons to legalise online poker in Holland. However what the report does state is that other forms of online gambling like online casino, online bingo and online sportsbook would remain illegal until such time the government decides to legalise these forms of gambling. Online casinos are hugely popular in Holland, but the monopoly is state run and state owned, hence the fact that online casinos are illegal.
For some online players it is great news, but in the greater aspects of things, it is an opportunity missed by the Dutch Government for only allowing poker to be legalised. The other forms of gambling can provide a lucrative income for the coffers of government but it is still debateable topic, which is going on for the last couple of years. With poker nearly there, online deposit options like Neteller and many other online deposit options can benefit from the influx of online deposits. By governments opening gambling to players, they can ensure that taxes can be dropped as extra income is being generated by online operators.
Holland together with other European countries like Italy will become leaders in legalising online poker, but will lack behind countries like Denmark where players are empowered and the players of Denmark are allowed to play online in any form they choose. Moving away from Holland and going a bit south, South Africa gaming board announced in a statement earlier that remote online gambling is now officially illegal in this South Africa. It comes as a huge shock as fines up to €1million or 10 years imprisonment or both could face online casino operators within South African borders if they are found accepting deposits from South African citizens.
