Aug 27, 2009

Most poker players today find their poker action online and learns how to play the game strategically keeping cards and odds in the head as well as the position in the hand to optimize the game towards the other online players. This takes time and a lot of practice to get in to the head with hours of reading and practicing the new theories and finding a game style that fit the person and the game. When leaving the online game to participate in live poker games at casinos and clubs or in the big poker events poker gets another dimension as well.

When leaving the computer and sitting down at an actual poker table and playing poker watching other players poker becomes much more difficult. Even if the odds are the same and all strategies online work on the live poker table there is the aspect of being a human being. A poker player who play live always have to be focused on not giving away information about the hand the player is playing at the moment. Just a way to handle the chips on the table or the way the player says something can determine if e will get called or not.

These motions and tone of voice or even how to breathe and sit are called tells. Live poker is as the cliché says more about playing the person than playing the cards. In essence that means that a player focuses on picking up and trying to understand what cards the opponent has and when he has figured that out, play his card in a way to maximize the win if he thinks he has better cards or trying to make the opponent fold his cards if it seems to be a stronger hand. Live poker will always be much more complex than online poker. Online poker players should start out playing live with friends and practice the person to person game before entering any of the poker tours around the world to maximize their chance to go home with the grand prize.
